HOW
IT WORKS |
Each year, the MDSC International Committee selects a
country (or countries) whose emerging Scouting programs would benefit
from limited financial aid. Then we initiate a world-wide drive to
encourage Scouts and Scouters to contribute to help their less fortunate
brothers and sisters in Scouting. In return for your donation we send
you an official program patch for every $6 donated. |
OUR
HISTORY OF SERVICE |
1995
Donations from our first gold bordered patch helped Scouts in refugee
camps in Zaire with the purchase and delivery of tenting, medical
supplies, equipment, and clothing. We also provided tenting to Scouts in
Panama and Paraguay.
1996-1997
Patch donations financed the purchase and delivery of camping, scouting,
and first aid equipment to the Scouters in the Ukraine and Siberia. We
also provided funds directly to the Siberian Scout Association for
general scouting purposes through USFIS.
1998
Scouts in Grenada and Dominica in the Caribbean and Scouts in Nicaragua
in Central America were the recipients of camping equipment, medical
supplies, and Scouting supplies thanks to your donations. We also sent
funds directly to the respective Scout Associations thru USFIS for their
general use.
1999-2000
Provided tentage for the 2000 all African Jamboree, and provided funds
for equipment and supplies directly to the Scouts of Mozambique and sent
funds thru USFIS to the Scouts of Mozambique. We also underwrote the
cost of shipping a large volume of Scouting books from Portuguese Scouts
of Brazil to the Portuguese speaking Scouts of Mozambique.
2001-2002
Raised funds for Scouts and Scouting organizations in Lithuania, Bosnia- Herzegovinia and Macedonia. These funds were used for Scouting, camping, first aid, training and other Scouting program materials within these Scouting organizations.
2003-2004
Funded Scouts and Scouting organizations in Papua, New Guinea, Sri Lanka, and Figi to directly acquire and deliver Scouting, camping, first aid, training and other Scouting program materials to these Scouting organizations. Surplus was presented to the BSA national World Friendship Fund where it will be directed to other country's whose Scouting programs are in need. |

"WHAT IS THE WORLD FRIENDSHIP FUND?"
The World Friendship Fund was developed by the Boy Scouts
of America during the closing days of World War II. At the time, there was a
great need to rebuild Scouting in nations that had been wracked by war and
were just emerging from the shadows of totalitarianism.
In the years that have elapsed, virtually every nation in
the free world that has Scouting has been aided by the fund. Both those
nations that have had Scouting before and those newly emerging nations that
desire the Scouting program for their youth have been helped.
Through the World Friendship Fund, voluntary
contributions of Scouts and leaders are transformed into cooperative
projects that help Scouting associations in other countries to strengthen
and extend their Scouting programs.
Since the beginning of the World Friendship Fund, more
than $1 million has been voluntarily donated by American Scouts and leaders
to these self-help activities.
"WHO ARE WE HELPING THIS YEAR?"
For our tenth anniversary we are returing to where we started, supporting three Central American Scouting organizations in Guatemala, Belize, and Nicaragua. Funds will be used to directly acquire and deliver Scouting, camping, first aid, training and other Scouting program materials to these Scouting organizations. Any surplus will be presented to the BSA national World Friendship Fund where it will be directed to other country's whose Scouting programs are in need.
